The Abbey, a corporate member of the Prayer Book Society, was founded in the 12th century as a Premonstratensian house in honour of St Norbert and as a daughter house to Welbeck Abbey. The monks were known as the White Canons. It was partially destroyed in the 16th century during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, but in the 17th century a small chapel was built onto the surviving tower and serves as a parish church for people in Sheffield who prefer the continued use of the Book of Common Prayer in worship and cannot find it in their own parish. After the service on 27th October one of the Governing Committee will give visitors some idea of the Abbey's history and the role it plays today. For visitors using sat.nav. the address is Beauchief Abbey, Beauchief Abbey Lane, Sheffield, S8 7BD. There is plenty of room to park along the Lane
